Lexical variants of the cultural context faced by the Colombian National Police polygraphist in the Central American context

The objective of this research is to determine the lexical variants of the regional
language of Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala, which could generate
confusion in the exercise of polygraph examinations. To achieve this objective,
an exploratory study was carried out using a qualitative approach; the population
was composed of the polygraphist personnel of the Credibility and
Reliability Group of the Police Intelligence Directorate. The selected sample
comprised twelve polygraph examiners who conducted polygraph examinations
in Central America through international cooperation agreements. The
data collection techniques used were interviews and documentary consultation
and, in addition, an analysis matrix was used to organize and categorize
the data. The results were used to structure a glossary of Central American
words that facilitate the contextual interpretation of terms that could cause
confusion during the application of a polygraph examination. In general, the
aim is to improve the efficiency of polygraph examinations in these regions
and reduce errors caused by linguistic misunderstandings.
